ITALIE – ITALY : Milan

Coro del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, conducted by Bruno Casoni

Professional Lyric Choir

” Yes, we interrupted rehearsals on 23 February 2020. We plan to resume rehearsing once the scientific committee of technicians and doctors will have drawn up a specific health protocol for La Scala ’s artistic sections.

In the absence of rehearsals, we have arranged individual study and have experimented with musical activities on specialised platforms, which nevertheless require editing and remastering (cutelab, audacity, etc.). We are preserving the bonds between choristers by experimenting with videos via music sharing platforms. We are studying streaming and live TV options, with small and large audiences, in outdoor or indoor locations. Meanwhile the Teatro has shared on websites and social media a extensive repertoire of La Scala ’s historical and recent images and productions. The Italian public broadcaster, RAI, has also increased its broadcasting of La Scala ’s past repertoire productions.

For videoconferences we use platforms that allow a large number of participants, such as gotomeeting , whereas for music rehearsals we use the applications listed above.
At the moment, our biggest headache is the definition of an effective health safety protocol for the Teatro ’s workers and audiences. The problem with using masks, which could indeed be a solutions, is their various aspects which make them incompatible with our work. Nevertheless, we are trying to find a workable solution. Good luck, therefore, to the entire world of the performing arts !”
